BARRIE, ONT. – A pair of humble Ontario artists will join the ranks of Leonardo da Vinci and Eugene Delacroix when their paintings are displayed at the prestigious Louvre Museum in Paris.
The paintings by Mary Lynne Atkinson, of Springwater Township, and Pauline Bradshaw, of Barrie, will be exhibited at the Musee du Louvre during an exhibit from Dec 13 to 17.
“It’s pretty exciting. It’s the pinnacle of an art career,” Bradshaw said. “It really is huge and for two of us from the same area. I just can’t believe it.”
When Atkinson went on her second Arctic expedition to paint icebergs in 2009, she had no idea one of the paintings spawned from the trip would be chosen to adorn a wall in the Louvre — home of the Mona Lisa.
“Honestly when I was painting it I was not dreaming that big,” she said. “It’s certainly flattering and it is very exciting….”
